Yao out with sore foot
Houston Rockets center Yao Ming will sit out Wednesday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks with a sore left foot. The team said Yao is being held out “for precautionary reasons” after leaving Monday’s game at Oklahoma City with an apparent left ankle injury. Yao underwent tests on Tuesday that revealed no structural damage. Yao broke his left foot last February and missed the final 26 games of the regular season. In the wake of the Baron Davis era, the Warriors‘ future now has a

face. In fact, it has seven of them.

The Warriors announced Monday they have given Stephen Jackson a

three-year contract extension, locking him up through the 2012-13

season.

The move, coupled with about $170 million of free-agent contracts

given to Monta Ellis, Corey Maggette and Andris Biedrins over the

off-season, gives the Warriors a four-man nucleus locked into place

for at least the next five seasons.

A point guard, two swingmen and a center. If the franchise only

Even before Anthony Morrow scored a career-high 37 points in his first NBA start Saturday afternoon, a more important story had emerged.

He already had supplanted second-year shooting guard Marco Belinelli in Don Nelson’s rotation.

Nelson had been playing Belinelli ahead of Morrow to start the season, but in recent days Morrow has overtaken Belinelli. Against the Pistons on Thursday, Morrow entered the game before Belinelli, the first time that had happened this season.

Morrow was undrafted out of Georgia Tech and made the Warriors after impressive showings in the Las Vegas summer league and Salt Lake City Revue.

The power pendulum in the Warriors‘ front office took another swing in Don Nelson’s favor Tuesday.

Hours before they defeated the Timberwolves in overtime, the Warriors announced the hiring of Larry Harris as an assistant coach. It might not sound like much, especially when you consider the club had an opening for a coach, but the potential ramifications are huge.

The Warriors now have a general manager type (Harris) serving as a coach and an assistant coach type (Larry Riley) serving as an assistant general manager. It’s quite possible they will someday soon swap titles.

Harris is the son of Del Harris, a longtime buddy of Nelson. So the hiring clearly signals another shift toward Nelson and away from Chris Mullin in the front office.
